English Heritage Days Out (£0.69 – iPad, iPhone, Android)
This app, produced by English Heritage, will help you find castles, gardens and historic houses to explore. You can use the near me map or list to find out what’s around your current location, or the Day Out finder wheel which suggests places based on your selected region or county as well as any specific needs like somewhere that’s great for the kids.
HHA Historic Houses Association (Free – iPad, iPhone, Android)
This app lists details of historic houses and stately homes open to the public. You can search the map for choices near you, and click on the map pins to see photos, descriptions, opening times and directions. There is also a gallery section you can browse for inspiration.
BBC History Magazine (Subscription – iPad, iPhone)
The BBC History magazine is available for online subscription. Issues often contain articles related to Norfolk history.
A search in the iPad Apps store brings up the names of many other history magazines, some with specialised subjects, such as military, aviation and railway history.
Norwich: Heritage City (Free – iPad, iPhone, Android)
Users can explore historic buildings and places around Norwich, via a map view or by browsing through the heritage sites. Once downloaded it can be used offline, including the detailed street maps, so does not incur roaming charges.
